The Ribera de Arlanza is situated in the centre of the province of Burgos. About 40 kilometres south of the capital. It is situated in the mid-low valley of the river Arlanza and its tributaries. It covers a land surface of 962 km2. The region is located between the Sierra de Covarrubias, to the east, as far as the Páramos del Cerrato, to the west. The northern and southern limits are determined on the versant of the river Arlanza.
The denomination is composed of 50 municipalities, of which 45 belong to the province of Burgos, and 5 belong to Palencia. As regard to roads, the region is crossed from north to south by the National N-1, and from east to west by the N-622. Inside the region there exist places of great cultural and tourist interest as for example: Lerma, Santo Domingo de Silos, Covarrubias, Santa Mª del Campo, Mahamud There also exist areas with a beautiful landscape such as La Sierra de Covarrubias and the defile of la Yecla. |
