| After a detailed study of the varieties that exist in the region, and the adaptation and representation of each one of them in respect to the total of the area, a few varieties were fixed as the most representative and adaptive. These are: |

TINTA DEL PAIS

Also known as Tempranillo. A red wine variety. It is the main variety. It represents 95% of the total plantation. |

|
GARNACHA

A complementary variety inside the red wine range. It is the second most important variety. It represents 2% of the present-registered surface. In this region there exists a ripening problem due to the altitude and the climate. |
||
|
MENCÍA

Another complementary red wine variety. At present there is little registered surface, representing 1% of the total. The vineyards are old and there is no planting of this variety being carried out. |

|
CABERNET SAUVIGNÓN

A variety of Fench origin. It is used mixed with the Tinta del País in wines destined to aging in barrels because of its organolepticas qualities. At present there is little registered surface, representing 0,5% of the total. |

ALBILLO

A permitted variety. It represents 1% of the total registered. It is used for the elaboration of rosé wines. |

|
VIURA

It is also called "Macabeo" or "white Tempranillo". It represents 0,5% of the actual registered surface. It is used for the elaboration of rosé wines. |

![]() At the moment there exist other varieties which are not protected by the Statute of the Association, which are cultivated in a marginal way, and whose fruits have their destine in the market of table grapes. The existing surface is not harvested, as it is not imperceptible. |
